Just when you thought the Saw franchise would live on forever, just like Jigsaw himself, it’s now being reported that Saw XI has been canceled, with the film’s producers reportedly at loggerheads. Despite it being one of the most highly anticipated horror movies of 2025, the sequel is now being obliterated like a poor schmuck in one of the franchise’s legendary traps. According to Bloody Disgusting we might not see another sequel in the Saw franchise at all, as a source “close to the production” has informed them that Saw XI has been cancelled.

The studio source is quoted as sating, “It’s totally dead. It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.” They also added, “Everything went sideways in January 2024…the producers started fighting.” Apparently, one producer attempted to continue production on the film, but the other put up restrictions that brought the whole thing crashing down. Unfortunately, as a result, no one at Lionsgate could smooth over the disagreement.
The cancellation effectively ends the Saw franchise, at least for now because as we know, lucrative franchises don’t stay dead for long. The post-credits scene in Saw X hinted at a continuation of the story, featuring Tobin Bell’s John Kramer and Costas Mandylor’s Mark Hoffman. However, without Saw XI, it’s unclear if that storyline will continue. Director Kevin Greutert and writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan were expected to return.

Also, earlier this year Scream magazine reported that all was not well with the film’s production, stating Tobin Bell’s age, plus financial issues were at the core of the problems. “We’re also hearing that the advancing age of series star Tobin Bell is also a concern. Bell, who has played John Kramer in 9 of the 10 Saw installments, recently turned 81. We’re hearing that concerns have been raised that Bell is no longer up to the physical demands of carrying a Saw picture, having faced serious difficulties during the previous film”.
If the world of Saw does indeed end, for now, what does it mean for the legendary franchise? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!
